Happy Holidays 2021
On behalf of Pueblo Science, I wish you and your family happy holidays! The end of the year is a time we spend with our loved ones, reflect on this year’s activities, and look forward to the excitement that 2022 will bring! This year, we introduced a new program, Science in Indigenous Communities, which was piloted at Geraldton Composite High with participation from 28 students. We also launched two e-books, each containing 15 hands-on experiments for Grade 4-6 students that are woven into an exciting story involving characters from the seven continents. In response to the demand for remote learning, we have also released weekly Science at Home videos on our Facebook, Youtube and Tiktok channels to the enthusiastic reception of many families. Furthermore, we’ve transitioned many of our in-person programs to online events in 2021, including:
RISE program via live video conferencing in the Philippines and Jamaica, reaching over 600 teachers
Science in the Community Online program, connecting 5,000 students in Canada and the Philippines with mentors consisting of Pueblo scientists and engineers
The Hackathon for Science Education, providing opportunities for 80 undergraduate Canadian students to work in teams in creating Energy themed activities for the Jamaican curriculum
Pueblo Science’s University of Toronto chapter successfully organizing a well-attended panel discussion on genome editing
We have big plans for 2022 and we need your support. Please consider making a donation to Pueblo this calendar year in support of the many training and mentorship programs for youths and teachers around the world. For instance, we plan to expand our programs in indigenous communities in 2022, impacting more students and creating lasting partnerships with other indigenous and educational organizations. Watch out for our newsletters and social media posts for more updates!I thank you for being a part of Pueblo Science as we continue to inspire the next generation of innovators around the world. We will continue our efforts in addressing the needs of rural and remote areas, further advancing local innovation and problem solving. With Pueblo Science’s programs, we are reinforcing critical thinking in youth and offering a path towards a STEM-enabled career. Thank you very much for being a part of our Pueblo community, as sponsors, donors, partners, advisors, volunteers and/or participants. Wishing you a happy, safe holiday season.
