$60K OTF Grant to Help Pueblo Continue STEM Education Activities in Underserved Communities in Ontario
Pueblo Science is pleased to announce that it received a $60,100 Resilient Communities Fund from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) in April 2022, to develop a sustainable fundraising strategy to rebuild and recover from impacts of COVID-19. Large-scale fundraising activities such as ticketed events – galas, science festivals, family activities – were halted during the pandemic, reducing Pueblo Science’s revenues.
The grant will help Pueblo develop strategies to engage partners effectively, acquire new donors/sponsors, and acquire tools needed to support fundraising. The grant will also help train long-term volunteers to acquire the necessary skills to ensure a sustainable fundraising to support its programs.
“The impact of this OTF grant cannot be underestimated,” says Dr. Mayrose Salvador, Executive Director of Pueblo Science. “This grant will jumpstart our fundraising efforts to make sure that we reach our goals and have enough resources to deliver our programs to children in underserved communities.”
Programs such as Science in the Community have provided hands-on STEM learning to over a hundred thousand children in the GTA and in Waterloo. Another program, the STEM Enrichment in Indigenous Communities, has served indigenous students in Webequie, Geraldton and Marathon, Ontario. Each year, Pueblo also trains over 100 youth (undergraduate and high school students) to help plan and deliver these programs. Thanks to the grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, children in low-income and remote Ontario communities will have access to engaging science activities.
